Description | : | The Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA) has launched a training program on electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) for officers of various registered banks. The training is being conducted at the e-GP Training Lab of BPPA Bhaban, located on the campus of the Bangladesh Planning Commission at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The first batch, consisting of 15 bank officers from different banks, began training on 24 September 2025. Training for other stakeholders such as tenderers and procuring entity (PE) users has been ongoing since 10 August 2025 at three separate venues managed by Dohatec, which is engaged by BPPA as a consultant. Banks and financial institutions are key stakeholders in the e-GP system as they provide payment services to tenderers across the country. Currently, a total of 52 banks are registered with the e-GP platform to facilitate payments. Through these banks, tenderers purchase tender documents, pay fees, and take tender and performance securities. Each branch providing e-GP services assigns both a maker and a checker to ensure secure and efficient payment operations. Training for bank officers, PE administrators, and policy-level officials will continue at BPPA’s training labs until December 2025, in parallel with stakeholder training at the three Dohatec venues. The training for the first batch of bank officers was inaugurated by Mr. Md. Mutasimul Islam, Director of BPPA, on 24 September 2025. In his address, Mr. Islam emphasized the importance of timely and efficient services for tenderers. “Tenderers are always pressed for time when submitting their tenders. Any delay in obtaining banking services creates significant problems for them. I urge all banks to deliver prompt and reliable services,” he said. Mr. Islam also pointed out that delays in depositing tender document fees into BPPA’s account by some banks remain a concern, urging all banks to avoid such practices. He encouraged the participants to make full use of the training to enhance their understanding and improve services. “You should feel free to ask any relevant questions to gain a clear understanding of e-GP operations required from banks. This training is an opportunity to strengthen your role in supporting the system,” he added.
